  • Wix Expert Convention in Miami

I attended the first ever Wix Expert Convention in Miami May 22-23. This was my first time to Miami. I was so excited to see a new city, meet my fellow Wix Experts AND get to go to the beach all in one trip. The two day convention was held at Wix Headquarters in Miami. The convention was created by and run by Wix Expert community members! Yes, created by us, run by us....for... us. The staff at Wix was amazing and the top leadership came to the event to meet us, answer our questions and provide us with sneak peaks at what's coming soon. Workshops were held teaching us Wix Code, networking skills, business growth, and marketing. In between these amazing sessions, I met designers from Russia, London, Aruba, Costa Rica Brazil, Scotland, Australia, the states... it was amazing! The positive energy and community vibe was so uplifting. I headed home with new knowledge, ideas, goals, contacts and new friends! I can't wait for the next one! #wixcon #wixexpert #wixconmiami

Paula Moore contacted me through the Wix Arena to help her with her website redesign. In addition to a new website, I designed a logo for her developed an email marketing strategy for her to grow her customer base. Paula Moore is a watercolor artist. • FREEBIE: You've been Boo'd Poem

Halloween... it is my favorite holiday. Growing up I thought it was awesome that I got to dress up as something completely unlike me and collect candy from neighbors. I always had perms (it was the 80's) so it was a given that one year I dressed as Michael Jackson with my red leather jacket and white glove. My favorite costume was the year my best friend and I dressed up as Punk Rockers. I did my own make-up and it was pretty awesome. (Picture Jem and the Holograms meets Madonna.) The funniest year was when I dressed as a Mummy. My mom wrapped me in toilet paper. The whole night my brother had to keep re-wrapping me because I was unraveling. What was your favorite costume as a kid? To make the week even better... the day after Halloween is my birthday. I get candy and presents! Best week EVER! In 2005, Halloween became even more special to me. On October 30, my daughter was born making me a mom. She was born with a bunch of hair and even had some on the top of her ears... so I said she was a werewolf for Halloween. Don't worry the hair fell off--all of it. She was bald for a while. :) We spent that Halloween and my birthday in the hospital that year and it was the best birthday gift ever. My love for Halloween is shared by my whole family. (Like they really had a choice.) We love to decorate and especially for Halloween. They beg me to decorate before October 1. Truth be told we have decorated before the official start of Fall. We transform our entire house inside and outside. Some years our decor was friendly and cute. This year, my kids are at an age that they like the more spooky side of Halloween. (FINALLY!) I still love dressing up. I still love candy although I don't get to go door to door anymore. I do however get to pilfer through my kids' candy. We have a family tradition of Boo'ing our friends. What is Boo'ing your friends? It is a trick and a treat rolled into one. It is giving a Halloween gift without expecting one in return. What to do: Print two copies of the poem. Make two goodie bags with candy or toys. Attach the poem to each bag. In the dark of night: your kids leave a Boo'd bag on the front porch of a friend's house, ring the doorbell and RUN! My husband is the getaway driver. I am the navigator. Watching our girls sneak up to a door, run through yards and scale bushes is hysterical. This year, my oldest daughter had to leave a bag on a front porch where the front door was open and they were watching TV in the living room. She didn't get caught. And, I think she has a future in hurdle jumping. Today, I want to share with you our tradition. You can download the free "You've Been Boo'd" poem by clicking here. Have fun! Please share with me your families' funniest Boo'd bag deliveries. #Halloween #YouveBeenBood #Freebie

  • How to Establish a Brand Identity

I am a firm believer that print, web, social media and marketing all work together in a give and take relationship to build and grow a business. You cannot have one without the other and continue to grow. The consistent message across all platforms helps to establish a business as professional and credible. Today, I am starting a series of blog posts covering the correlation between the various Medias and how they help your business be a success. Business 101: Establish a Brand Identity What is a brand identity? According to Wikipedia: “A brand's visual identity is the overall look of its communications. Effective visual brand identity is achieved by the consistent use of particular visual elements to create distinction, such as specific fonts, colors, and graphic elements. At the core of every brand identity is a logo.” Your company’s brand identity starts with a logo. There are four characteristics of a great logo. A great logo is unique. Your logo should stand out and be recognized among the slew of others in the same market space. A great logo is adaptable. Strong logos translate well across different mediums. Will your logo evoke the same meaning on a business card as it will on a billboard? Make It timeless. A great logo will last for years. Make It appropriate. Before embarking on any sort of marketing campaign, you must first nail down your target audience. A logo needs to accurately reflect a company's culture and values: the company's essence. Color is a major attribute in determining the appropriateness of a logo design. Different colors are associated with different meanings in different cultures. It's important to think about how the colors in your logo reflect your brand values and the services or products you sell. A great logo is one that you can recognize what it is without the text of the company name. Or, if you hear the company name you visualize the graphic logo. If I say, "Golden Arches" you visualize the McDonald's logo. A business logo sets the tone for your brand identity. A business with a consistent brand identity has the same look and feel between all forms of media and communications. The same fonts and colors are used on print, web and social media. Does your business logo meet the four characteristics of a great logo? My next post topic will discuss the benefits of a website and its role in your brand identity. #brandidentity #logo

  • How well is your website working?

"I already have a website. I had some company out of Ohio build it. I don't really look at it much." Sound familiar? When I work with clients I do more than just build them a website. I build them a marketing tool that works to grow their business while they service their current customers. I believe that if done correctly print, web and marketing work together to grow a business. Believe it or not, there are some businesses out there that do not have websites. Gasp! Today we are going to talk about why every business needs a website and a web presence. Business 200: Why you need a Website? An online presence is so much more than a just a website. There are numerous reasons why even the smallest of businesses can benefit from a web presence. Below are five key considerations of we well-designed website: Visibility: With more and more consumers logging onto the Web to research products and services, if they are going to find your business, your business needs to be on the Web. A first impression of a business is often their website. The site needs to reflect the professionalism and quality of the business through the style and design of the site. Reach: With a website, you are no longer limited to a customer base that is in physical proximity to your main office. Your place of business may be in Virginia, but your customers can be in Hawaii. This aids in growing your business past word of mouth. Customer service: When customers can log onto your website and easily find the information they want-when they want it--their satisfaction increases. Is your site mobile optimized? The majority of website visitors are logging on from a mobile device. If it is hard to navigate your site from a mobile device, guess what, vistitors leave your site. Competition: A professional looking website can level the playing field for smaller companies trying to compete against larger enterprises. It's also a way to stay in the game. Even if people can't find you on the Web chances are they can find your competitors. Credibility: When you can point customers, partners, even potential employees or investors to a visually stunning website, it tells them you are a serious business. Does your current website meet the above items? Ask yourself: How is my current website working for me as a business owner? Can I capture visitor's contact information to grow my contact list? Can customers book appointments with me from my website? Can customers easily find what they need on my website? Can customers order products or RSVP to events from my website? Can customers contact you through your website? Can you respond to website messages easily? How many website visitors does my site get a month? How many qualified leads come from my website? How is my website ranked in search results? Is my website mobile optimized? Most websites have one or two but not all of considerations discussed above. If you would like a free website audit of your current website, please contact me at melissa@winebrennerdesigns.com. #website #mobileoptimization #UserExperience #wix #wixexpert

  • Michelle Grey Author Website Reveal

Author of romantic suspense novels, Michelle Grey, contacted Winebrenner Designs to give her website a fresh new look. After evaluating her online presence I proposed not only updating her website but also improving her brand identity online and on her social media accounts. Any good designer does research to understand the business. In this case my research included getting a feel for the style of books the author writes. As an avid reader and lover of romance and suspense it was easy homework to accomplish. I confess, I am now a fan. I can’t wait for the next book! The design of her website reflects the author’s personality and style of her writing. Website visitors are greeted with clean lines mixed with pops of color and a touch of seduction. Winebrenner Designs implemented a Fan Club sign up form to capture fans emails. This enables Michelle to connect and communicate with her target audience. She can then inform them of events, sales and new releases with calls to action to buy or RSVP right from the email. Her social media, Goodreads and Amazon author pages are consistently branded and reflect the same look and feel as her website. Check out her new website at authormichellegrey.com. Michelle Grey has a new book set to release in March of 2016. Winebrenner Designs is coordinating her marketing and book launch party. Stay tuned for more details! #website #brandidentity #graphicdesign #wixexpert
